I looked in the CompUSA ad today and I saw that companies are finally jumping on the desknote bandwagon. I saw a nice toshiba one with a 16" display for $2400. Nice! Well, since I am going to school in a month, I just want to know when Gateway will get on this bandwagon. I was originally goinn to get the 600xl by gateway, but its price kind of scared me. But seeing as how Toshiba made a 2.2 GHz notebook for $2400, I am eager to see if Gateway will follow.

why would you want a gateway?

Why would you ask such a question? Please, don't turn this into a "gateway sucks thread". I came here to be informed, not misinformed.

no... thats not what i meant.. I mean when toshiba, a proven company when it comes to quality notebooks at great prices already has the 2.2ghz for 2400, why would you want to get something else not as good?

i dont know how much more will come out within the next few weeks before school starts anyways.

toshiba has been using desktop processors for a long time. its still a notebook, not a desknote. winbook has used desktop processos for a few years (maybe a decade) as well.

May i ask why you would want a notebook with a desktop processor?

From what i hear/understand, the battery life sucks and the systems run hotter than hell.

and make sure the thing is using ddr ram instead of regular sdram... toshiba was doing that for a while and, as well all know, the p4 with sdr sdram is a big joke that intel played on people.

Uncle bought a WinBook about a month ago... I was using it on my lap for about 30 minutes, just some basic surfing and a few apps. The damn thing got so hot I couldn't keep it on my lap anylonger...

Do you mean tablet PCs? I read an article @ AT about ECS iBuddie tablet and I figure out it's a great mobile system, easily expandable with regular desktop RAM and CPUs. I think tablet PCs will become a standard someday. But keep in mind that though it's almost as compact as a notebook it doesn't have a built-in battery, only an external AC adapter.

no, its just the notebook manufacturers using cheaper/faster desktop processors in notebooks. nothing more.

Desknotes look like notebooks but they aren't portable. Notebooks with desktop processors are simply notebooks with desktop processors instead of mobile processors.

not portable? Are they too heavy? how much do they weigh?
