Notebooks that accept more than 2GB of RAM

Ill start off with the usual quesions. What do you need ALL that ram for and does it need to be portable or is it a DTR.

I assume you're sticking with Windows?

Your only option is the new Core Duo 945 chipset based laptops. All previous laptops (except maybe a couple beastly P4 tinderboxes) support 2GB max. The 945 chipset supports 4GB @ DDR2 533 and 3GB @ DDR2 667 I believe. However depending on the OEM's implementation, a particular laptop may not have official support for this so be sure to check into it.

Thinkpads I believe are certified for 3GB only right now, can't speak to others.

As fbrdphreak said the new 945 Core Duo chipset will support 4GB. I'm unaware of anyone offering a 4GB lappy. Again, unless you count the 13 pound desktop CPU's in a "lappy" chassie.

I new wrinkle, MS is going to suggest ECC memory in Vista [new article today news.com]. So what OS do you plan to run?

Anyway, I'm looking too.

Great, thanks for the feedback.

Fbrd, I looked in to the new T60p listed in another thread and it only went to 2gb any way to tell what models will go to 3 or 4gb?

The press material given to me by Lenovo said 3GB on T60p I believe. My review T60 arrived today, so I'm sure I'll be checking into that limit during the course of the review.
