Hi Guys , I got a compaq 3050 being delivered with a SIS650 intergrated graphics. I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my internal graphics subsystem... Its got a beefy 3.06P4 and I just am dissapointed that it has such mediocre 3D.....
I know I can replace the HD with a speedier one etc ,etc.

Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks

Not likely. Most laptops use integrated video (you indicated yours does), so there's no slot to plug into. Laptops are always a compromise between speed/features and weight/battery life.

Most likely not -

The laptops with built in graphics cards have the card located on the motherboard, as oppose to in a slot. I have never heard of a laptop coming with built in graphics card that was expandable to also accommidate a real video card.

There are laptops that allow upgrading of video. But they don't use integrated video normally. The mini-AGP spec was made for laptops. Several of the newer Dells are using the mini-AGP spec and are upgradable. The distinction is in how they implemented the video - integrated (or built-in as Chenry3 called it) or as a card.

Like laptop's video, motherboards are model or at least model-line centric. If another motherboard fits and the LCD is the same for both, it's likely to be in the same model line. Since it's in the same model line, it may even be the same board just with a different CPU.

And before you go opening up your laptop, they often use flat flex cables. If you're not used to dealing with these they can be easy to break (tear) and are then useless...
