I want to get a cheap laptop.

Basically, I want to use it for the internet when traveling, watching dvds, and at the very most, the games I would play on it would be super nintendo emulators or older pc games (starcraft, half life 1).

Anyway, I want something really cheap. I was wondering if getting an older, refurbished laptop would be the way to go (i.e. pentium 3 based). Chances are, if it comes with windows I will replace it with a version of linux. I dont need something for hardcore gaming and heavy multimedia stuff, since I got a good desktop for it.

Any ideas?

Give us price range, what do you mean by cheap, etc?

Sometimes there are some nice Dell deals etc that might fit your budget.

price is what you need to provide.

instead of going with PIII-m you should look for a lower powered pentium M
like in the range of 1.4-1.5

check the hot deals forum, sometimes you can get a dell laptop for 900 bucks that come with enough spec for what you do
