I want to clean my notebook, and it will require more then just blowing compressed air over it. I was wondering if you can pop of the keys on a notebook to clean them like you would with a normal keyboard? What's the best method to do this? And is there any other tips for cleaning and maintaining the hardware of my notebook?

It all depends on the laptop. I have very little qualms about taking my Dell C600 apart, but others will say not to do it.

If it breaks you will have to pay to get it fixed.

I have a Compaq Presario 1501CL. You say it depends on the notebook? So I am assuming this is not a general thing? I find it hard that no one has ever tried this considering the kind of things notebooks go through, if anything, there more inclined to get dirty then desktops, so how's a guy supposed to clean off his keyboard? And I would like to know how to safely try and remove my keys before I actually try it, if I break a keyboard, I'm out 8 bucks, if I break a notebook it's a tad more expensive.

You shouldn't have a problem taking it apart. I do at work on a pretty regular basis. As long as you don't try to force anything that won't budge or spill beer on it, it'll be fine.

I've only taken apart Dells but I wouldn't doubt that should be fine for your compaq also unless it's an ultraportable.
