Notebook LCDs are freaking cheaply made nowadays!

Is it just HP or is this common? Right out the box, power it on and a minute later I see a pixel that's stuck on red! What a POS! Should I return and request another same spec'd notebook, or return and go with a different company?!

They won't replace it for a single dead pixel. That's life. LCDs with zero defects would cost three or four times as much. And who wants to pay $2800 for a laptop in 2004?

Stuck pixels can often be massaged away. A deal pixel unfortunately has little remedy, but should at the very least try to massage away one that may be stuck.

Aside: all manufacturers experience occasional problems with LCDs. Just the nature of the technology, regardless of quality control. Am not particularly fond of HP machines, but certainly it can happen and an informed consumer should not hold it against the manufacturer.

Well I can understand if a pixel dies or get stuck after a while, but this is RIGHT OUT THE BOX. Opened box, took laptop out and plugged in AC power, turned it on, and a stuck red pixel caught my eye!
