Notebook LCD 'noise'

Hello,

I've had my Lenovo T61p for about 2 years now (almost to the day). All of a sudden today the video (as in, what I see on the LCD) showed horizontal noise, almost as if the image was being stretched back/forth. This lasted for about 1 minute at which point I immediately shut down my laptop, took out the battery, cleaned out some dust and turned it back on. Things were fine, but I did again notice a bit of noise a few minutes in, but only for a few seconds this time.

The GPU is a a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M. SpeedFan 4.39 reports the GPU is 65C. I've only got thunderbird, firefox, pidgin and pc tools firewall open. No games. I tried installing the latest drivers from NVIDIA but even though the page says my GPU is supported, the updater says it's not and exits. Regardless, the laptop has been perfectly fine for 2 years.

Any ideas what this might be a symptom of? I would contact support but I've moved (different continent) since buying the laptop.

Anything I can do to diagnose, troubleshoot and or cool things down?

Thank you
