Hi, recently my DVD-ROM/CDRW combo drive for my R4000 stopped functioning correctly. When I put a disk in, it would light up for like a second but then stop. I think there's something wrong with the spinning mechanism. Anyway, I loosened the screws in the back of the Notebook and took out the drive, didn't really see anything wrong with it. So I put it back and then all of a sudden Windows can no longer load properly. So I did an HD self-check and it failed pretty quickly.
I didn't even touch the HD and for some reason it failed the self-test and now my Windows would crash half-way through loading, so does Safe-mode. And since my DVD drive still isn't functioning I can't put my Windows disk in to try a re-install/reformat. If I had an IDE-USB connector I would just rip out one of the DVD drives from one of my desktops and try to reinstall windows but I don't . . .
Any ideas? I'm hoping I don't need to get another HD/send the notebook to HP to have it fixed . . . also anyone know where I can get an adaptor to connect my Notebook hard drive to standard IDE?
