I plan to get a Notebook. One of the favorite games is Sim City 4. I was thinking about getting a 1.7 or a 1.8G dothan, and 512 MB of memory. What is the minimum video card I will need to run this game smoothly with everything turned high, with a population of over 100,000. This includes zooming and all. Also is a fast HD important for this game. This and WarCraft3 are the only games I play. I don't care about playing Doom3.

the game tend to draw more and more resource the longer you play. you will need a VERY powerful laptop to sustain the smoothness as you play along. maybe the one equipped with radeon 9700?

First off, 512mb is barely enough to run winxp smoothly with just a few apps -- it wont cut it for SC4 for all but the smallest cities. Look for 1 gb of memory. Second, you may want to upgrade your hard drive, assuming when you buy your laptop it comes with a slow 4200rpm type. A 7200 rpm drive would be very helpful in getting data loaded off the drive quickly.
