Notebook, Gateway vs Toshiba

Which company would you go with and why?

i am in the same delimma. gateway has a nice 15.7" while toshiba has a 16" screen, but only with a 2.2 desktop p4.

I'm not sure if Gateway will be around for long.

Also, I like the feel of Toshiba notebooks -- their keyboards and casing don't feel cheap like Dells.

Toshiba has good products, good service, better availability of replacement parts (especially once a model is old and new parts aren't being made). I've been recommending Toshiba models to people for 6 years at two different jobs.

I own an IBM myself but it was a great deal on a closeout ultraslim Thinkpad 240. If I were buying myself a desktop replacement notebook my first 2 brand choices would be Toshiba and Dell, with IBM third only because they haven't been offering any decent video options (no GF4 mx or Radeon).

I feel the exact opposite from you. I LOVE the feel of my Inspiron 8200's keyboard. I hated the feel of the Toshiba Satellite 5000's keyboard. I also didn't like the Toshiba's case.

As for Gateway vs Toshiba, I don't know which I would pick. You would probably be happy with either of them. I personally like Dell a lot more.

Dell make the best laptops by far. This has been proven over and over again in high end laptop reviews. The only thing going against the Dell Inspiron 8200 vs any other laptop is its weight because its a desktop replacement and hence much heavier than the "thin and lite."

As for the question; Toshiba has a better reputation than Gateway so I'd buy from Toshiba over Gateway....but i wouldn't buy from either of them. I'd buy a Dell.

Is there any reason Dell wasn't included or were you just not aware of the quality and price of their laptops?
