Just a general question.....

My cdrw bit the dust, so i decided to buy a dvd-rw in its place. I looked on the website and it says i should buy a Toshiba sd-r6112/6012. Am I restricted to this dvd-rw only? I would think that if it fits in my laptop with the caddy, it should work no matter what drive it is. I went online and i saw a wealth of different dvd-rw drives from sony, panasonic, etc and they all look like they could fit in my laptop. Also, when you buy a dvd-rw, do you assume it is a -/+rw?

That model writes DVD-R/W only. It doesn't write +R/W. I'm pretty sure it will fit your drive caddy though.

Don't assume it is a +/- drive unless it says so. It will say either DVD+/-RW or DVD+RW specifically.

what is the difference? Is the + the difference? the +/-RW is actually cheaper than the sd-r6112/6012.
