notebook displays...

When I was in Japan, I noticed that most of the notebooks in their electronic stores had a clear slightly-reflective coating on their displays, similar to the coating on HDTVs. It made the picture look very sharp. I've only noticed this type of coating on only a few notebooks in the states. Is this called CVGA? Can anyone share any information about it?

Dude... I read your post this morning... not knowing what it was about. I just got back from the Mercedes C-Spot Driving Event down in Old Bridge New Jersey. In the survey booth, they had a bunch of laptops, think they were Tecra's? Forget which company. Anyway, I now know what you are talking about. The displays on those things were AMAZING. Blows away my Toshiba Portege 2000's display (not that it was that great to begin with). To everyone looking to purchase laptops... this is the way to go, a price difference of up to $500... I say it's worth it!
