I currently have an HP Pavilion zd8000 with a P4 CPU 3.00GHz 2mb L2 and a 256mb ATI x600. I am looking to buy a new laptop, but am wondering if its really going to be worth it, if I am going to experience better FPS? (I like to play games).

My question is will I receive better performance with a Core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2GHz over my 3.0GHz machine? (I know clock speeds aren't EVERYTHING now.) What CPU in a laptop should I aim for? and is 4mb L2 worth it over the 2mb? Or should I go with a Turion? Power consumption really isn't an issue since I usually have mine plugged in.

(On a side note, just out of curiosity, which would you recommend GeForce Go 7600 or ATI Mobility Radeon X1800?) Thanks you guys, you have been a big help in the past ^^

Core 2 Duo and Core Duo > Turion X2 >>>>> Pentium 4. The 2mb vs. 4mb of L2 cache won't be that big a difference, just make sure you get an Intel mobile processor with the 667MHz FSB and not the 533MHz FSB.

The MR X1800 >>> Go 7600.

i agree with brainonska. and yea, you should get a pretty good fps increase if you get a decent card (7700go or better)

Graphically, anything above an MRx1400 should be better than a x600. The x1700/x1600 and 7600go are typically the same performance wise and can be found in alot of laptops nowadays.
