Notebook Battery Not Lasting Enough

I have a Compaq Presario 2800T Notebook PC running Windows XP Home. When using the battery alone, it used to last 2 hours and 14 minutes. Nowadays, it only last 30 minutes max... or shorter.

I used to get a warning sign saying that the battery has about 10% juice - that's when I wrap up and get the AC adapter if I have it. But now that the juice last roughly 30 minutes, I'm not being warned and suddenly goes into stand-by. It takes merely about 45+ minutes to charge the battery up to 100%.

I hardly watch DVD on it. Usually it's just music and Web surfing.

Anybody has any experience what causes? Could it be a hardware problem or should I just go buy a spare battery? If so, where's the cheapest place to get notebook batteries (281234-001)?

I bought the notebook August of 2001 - didn't buy the warranty thinking it'll survive. Damn, Damn, DAMN

Well it's probably just worn out
Its almost 3yrs old I would say you did very good with that one.
Don't know if this is the Cheapest or not but here is a starting place.

Well I just got the news from Compaq's support via e-mail.

Possibility is... it's either a bad voltage converter board or with the Battery itself.

What the lifespan of a notebook battery - anybody know?

Usually about a couple of years with continious use
Depending on how you charged the battey full discharge and recharge or partial discharges and so on.
