Notebook Bag or Notebook Backpack?

ndee

Lifer
Title says it all. I'm going to college and I'm wondering if I should get me a Notebook Bag or a Backpack. I'm leaning towards the Backpack but I'm afraid of one thing: If I can't fit everything(school books, etc) in the backpack, how should I transport it then?

If you have any nice models of a Bag or Backpack, a link is appreciated 🙂

Cheers!

backpack.

honestly, books are overrated... 99% of the time, all I ever took to class in college was a notebook to take notes; the text book was something to read outside of class and use for reference when studying for tests.

Get a good sized backpack and then make it look REALLY worn in. Whatever you do make it look like that there isn't anything worth stealing inside.

people leave their backpacks all over the place, and noone looks twice at them. with a notebook bag, if you left it ontop of a table in the cafeteria to save space for your friends, it'd be gone as soon as you turned around.

I like my Targus backpack. Has a bunch of pockets for my cell, power cable, mouse,etc.. Plus a seperate opening for my laptop and books.

Which Targus backpack do you have?

I'd go with the backpack...I hate those messenger bags. The shoulder strap annoys me to no end. I got the "gravity" bag from Targus. $35 from Target (local sale though), and it came with an optical USB mouse (w/retractable cable--that was cool), 4 port USB hub, and a retractable phone cable. The bag is plenty big...fits a 15" T42 w/the oversized battery installed...and still has space for some folders/binders & a textbook or two. It doesn't look bulky, but it's very spacious & well designed imo.

Can you also take away some of the "space" on the backpack? Like detachable compartments?

Nope...sorry 🙁 I've seen some like that, but they were expensive. If you weren't in Switzerland, I'd say go to a Best Buy and take a look at the Targus bags (or any other computer store that carries them)... To me, the bag isn't much bigger than your average single/double compartment school backpack, b/c the walls kinda "crush" in to give it a compact look. When you put stuff inside, it expands out. Maybe over time it'll get stretched out and lose that ability though...I'm not sure (just got mine).

I have a Targus something-or-other backpack and it has held up really well. I carry to school, work, on vacation, etc and it hasn't shown any signs of wearing out.

i had a messenger bag for a year but it wasnt as convient as a backpack... got in the way doing things

so i just got a notebook sleeve and place the laptop in a regular jansport 🙂

there are some backpacks at office depot that come with a wireless mouse, a pocket sized usb hub and something else I can't remember... it looked pretty cool though.
