People always run to the military's defense when a bad apple falls from the tree. Abu Ghraib showed that the problem was really more widespread than we first realized. The depravity of these soldiers is clearly shown through their own eyes; what kind of monsters would take pictures of torture scenes with a smile on their face?

NSFW: VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. As an expert witness in the defense of an Abu Ghraib guard who was court-martialed, psychologist Philip Zimbardo had access to many of the images of abuse that were taken by the guards themselves. For a presentation at the TED conference in Monterey, California, Zimbardo assembled some of these pictures into a short video. Wired.com obtained the video from Zimbardo's talk, and is publishing some of the stills from that video here. Many of the images are explicit and gruesome, depicting nudity, degradation, simulated sex acts and guards posing with decaying corpses. Viewer discretion is advised.

believe it or not, imagine #8 is an interrogation technique (or can be used as such). The way it works is that the prisoner is subjected to sensory deprivation for long period of time, then overwhelmed by stimuli, like barking dogs. Its specially effect is the subject has a fear of dogs. The complete contrast between being in a sensory deprived state and the dog barking is supposed to make the prisoner break down faster.
