im trying to find all companies that make custom notebooks such as hypersonic pc and voodoo. Generally im hoping for one that does those nice paintjobs, but if there's something out there that's worthwhile w/o the gloss, im willing to check it out.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. You can cut costs, but it'll come back to bite you in the end.

Hypersonic and Sager are two alternatives that are supposed to be pretty good. Though, since Hypersonic is a smaller company, they often have issues with customer support.

You've already listed the top "custom" laptop companies... don't know of anymore I would really trust. Anyone else got any suggestions?

But definitely you won't be dissapointed with a voodoo notebook

I'm sure i wouldn't be. Thank you everybody for temping that extra $500 out of me. Problem is i want something that looks nice and runs very well, but it's going to be primarily for note taking 😉 that's why i'm trying to limit my price to around $2200. If i could go further i'd get the voodoo in a heartbeat. Especially since the envy supposedly has such excellent battery life.

.... very tempted

BTW, does anybody stick with the 1 year standard warranties?
And hypersonic's primary problem is with sending stuff in a timely fashion.

Since you are looking for long battery life, how about a widescreen Centrino laptop with ATI 9600 graphics in a very solid case with the same slot loading DVD-RW drive as used in high end Apple Powerbooks? It doesn't have a fancy paint job but it will only run you $1899 with free delivery. See reviews and benchmarks here.
