Notcard studying question

I have been asking questions about school and homework frequently and for that I appologize for. At the moment I made 650 note cards with all german words/phrase/questions/etc. I need to study these but to tell you the truth, I never studyed using flashcards before. I don't know if I should read all the german words without fliping the card or should I read the answers to the german words and not the german word itself. Or should I just do both, read the german word then flip the card and see if I got it right.

The thing about notecards that disturbes me is that since you go through the pill of cards over and over again, you will know the pattern and you will know the answer without thinking about it because you know that word was next. (Please tell me if I do not make sence, I am god's clown of the english language lol)

Take 15-25 cards and learn them. Read the german word first. Once you can go through it mix the order around and do it again untill you can go through it. Do that a third time and set them aside. Go through all 650 cards like that and then mix them all up again. Grab a stack of 75 (you should know them pretty well by now) and go through them setting the ones you know in pile A and the ones you dont in pile B. Do that untill you go through all of the cards. Now go through all the cards you dont know untill you know them. Now do the whole stack and you should only have to go through them once this time.

As Theo said, break them down into small stacks and learn the first stack, add another stack, learn it and add another stack. This the best way, for me, to study for tests where I have to lean definitions and such.

What Theo said + take them with you everywhere and go through them at random moments you have time. For really important ones or ones I can't remember I make smaller cards and put them on a key ring and look at them when I'm waiting for the elevator, etc.
