notary public

Where are some places that have notary publics? Preferably for free or nearly nothing. There's one at my library but her hours don't match hours and we have to get it done within the next day or two. We need them to be available after 6pm. :| Know of any common places that should have them ?

I got mine done at a travel agency last time I needed it. You might call some of your local ones and ask.

It will cost you almost anywhere, but I think you can get it done at a courthouse for free (or very cheaply). Give them a call.

You may get charged, but it won't be much. From the New York State website:
May a notary public charge for administering an oath or affirmation or for taking an acknowledgment or proof or execution?

A notary public may charge a fee of $2.00 for administering an oath or affirmation or for taking an acknowledgment or proof of execution. Unless otherwise authorized by law, a notarial fee may not exceed this amount.

Unless authorized is the problem. Most notaries at businesses are authorized to charge a fee, that $2 is for government employed notaries I believe.

thanks guys.. I found another local library who has someone available tonight. Hopefully she'll only charge $2/signature too.

I've ordered a test kit to become a notary public. It'll serve useful in the future. 🙂

Oh and in CA I can charge $10 I think.
