not URGENT any more: I'm about to order a burner....need a lil advice real quick!

I have the CC out and ready!

I'm just not sure if the $60 extra for the Plextor 12/10/32 IDE is worth it over the Plextor 8/4/32 IDE.

The difference in CDR speed is 3 minutes right? The difference in CDRW is negligable because I will only be doing a few CDRWs (back up).

I plan to be doing quite a few burns (450 MP3s roaring to get on CDs, "back ups" of many CDs, "back ups" of friend's CDs (we are clumsy and break them 😉), etc.) in the first few weeks...then I assume it will calm down considerably! 🙂

BTW, since the 12/10/32 isn't CloneCD compatible (yet) what could I use to do raw writes?

It would take me two hours and twelve minutes to burn 440 MP3s into CDs in 20s with the 12/10/32...it would take three hours and eightteen minutes to do it using the 8/4/32.

Since both drives are top quality you can't really go wrong. I just bought a 4x4x32 Teac drive cause I needed one bad, but now I wish I would have gotten a faster one. After waiting 17 minutes to fill up a CD I would gladly have paid a little more for a faster drive. If you can afford it - get the faster one. It will pay off in the long run, especially if you have as little free time as I do.

lol

well, some of my friends who want back ups of their obscure files are getting charged $3+cost for the CDR...so in 20 burns for them I will have recouped my $60. 🙂

Disclaimer: Not illegal back ups this is for my friends who have crummy connections and want MP3s of their CDs (i put it on CD, then copy to their computer and keep the CD) or back ups of CDs that they own.

😉

EDIT: Consultant, thanks for the advice, I was thinking along the same lines because when school starts I won't have to much time for this stuff! :Q

i just got my 12x yesterday, it's great.

how much are your prices? i used the onvia and pointclick thing.

i burned the compusa 8x imations (100 pack, not the ones they have on sale this week) i had @ 12x just fine. 622 MB in about 6 min TOTAL from the starting phase through the recording to the end.

EZCD 3.5c did not recognize the burner though so i had to install the included 4.02c (latest version).

Get either one, you won't be sorry.

if you do your math correctly, at $3 a pop, you won't recoup your money that quick, because CDs cost money.

LOL!

Damn, it is hard to find good CDRs for cheap..

Onvia has virtually no selection of them.

Buy.com has a history of slow shipping and saying things are in stock when they really aren't so I am hesitant to buy five 10 packs of 12x TDK for 6.65 each...then minus 10 coupon...plus eleven for shipping. It comes to $34 for 50 12x TDKs w/ jewel cases...however...I'm wondering if the price is screwed... http://www.us.buy.com/comp/product.asp?sku=10246563

HELP! :Q

What CDRs to get?!?!? I can find 8x no problem...but 12x is a bitch.

up,

Mday, did you buy from onvia while they were listed in the "Computers" section at pointclick? They were there earlier, but are gone now...I know people's reimbursements have still gone through (they are still on the reimbursement page) but I'm not sure if I should risk it or just order tomorrow morning.

LMK what you did.

Thanks!

YOu may want to give the $30/100 at compusa... but the only problem is, you'd have to label them. The tops aren't that protective. I use them in my 8x imation/plextor and they work great. They also use the same dye as Mitsui's, so I'm happy there.

The beauty of using a plextor, is nearly all media will work with it 🙂 How much is the 12x anyway? I mean, you can always burn 8x for the time being... then when you find some decent media, take it to 12.

I'd get the 8x and save my pennies......besides, you won't have the problems of finding 12x-compatible CD-R's...if there really are such a kind....

check outpost.com - and don't forget you're ebates! they have kingston 8x and 12x pretty cheap, and free overnite shipping.

Those kingston's look nice...but are outta stock. 🙁

What does everyone think of those TDK's from buy.com that i mentioned?

I've used TDK's before and they were great. Only problem was that they werent 80 Min's, which I find very useful

I editted the title so people don't freak and feel the need to reply. 😛

But!

I just ordered a Plextor 12/10/32 IDE burner from Onvia through pointclick (they are on pointclick in the mornings...about 6AM- around 10AM EST) with a $25 off coupon too. Last night I ordered five 10 packs of TDK from buy.com and used a $10 off coupon. 🙂 I am gonna be ready to do some serious BURNING! 😀 WAHOO! I've wanted a burner for soooo long. 😛

You can always pick up a 50Spindle of imation 8x's for like $20 at your local BestBuy or Compusa... They burn great at 12x for me.
