Last week monarch had in their refurb section what they listed as plain 6800's agp but with 256 mb dd3. Also listed brand as xfx but I knew that had to be wrong since they never made any such thing as far as I know.

I thought it was a evga limited edition so I took the chance for 255 shipped and went and orderd it.

Well today I get the card and I notice right away its a 2slot card that looks like ultra pics. So I go to install the thing and then quickly realize hey this is not agp. Turns out its a pci-express 6800 ultra reference board from what I can tell from pictures online in previews of that card.

Why/how they would be selling somthing like that I have no idea, there is no markings on it to id who made it. From all I can tell its a strait nvidia made reference board(has made in usa stamped on it also) I of course also cant confirm that it even works since I have no pci-express motherboard.

It does have a few white stickers of just numbers on it and the bios version sticker etc, does anyone know how to gather information from those stickers to fig out the cards history and stuff?

But from visual looks it matches a sli able pci-express ultra reference board down to the sorta mermaid lady on it, to the 2 slots needed for ultra.

Not sure what to do with it I was pretty mad at first since that is a major error on their part not listing it as pci-express. Some kinda return even though it says no when you order from that section may be possible one way or another(envolving credit card company if needed) Or maybe they would offer me some partial credit or somthing who knows.

If I sit on it I would have to wait for nforce4 boards to try it and dont like sitting on somthing that may be defective for all I know.

Anyways if anyone has any advice on how to find more info about this card please let me know, thanks.

Yea I thought of ebay but I would have to know its fully functional and be 100 percent sure of what it is and maybe its history to some point.

Whould hate to sell somthing that dont work, not to mention the fact still remains I still want a new video card to use.

Maybe if I called nvidia and read them some of the numbers off the card they would know the story on it and who made it(does any one company make reference boards for nvidia?)

I dont really need a cpu and mb upgrade, I am running 3.2 socket 478 p4 which is still doing fine for me basicly but also rules out just getting a new mb since there are no pci-e ones for 478.

If I got a new cpu/mb it would just be a a64 on nforce4, course by the time I get the stuff to try the 6800 I coulda just have bought a fullblown agp retail cheaper prob.

If it works, then you have something worth $100 more then you bought it for. Problem is you need to find someone who has PCI-e and will test it for you.

call nvidia to confirm it first

then find a way to test it

if not, call the vendor/seller you got it from and return it

Return in case it doesn't work right? If it works upgrade to PCI-E or sell it in Ebay and buy a 6800GT.

Just says nvidia on the fan, basicly it is exaclty like the 6800 ultra pcie review posted on nvplanet.

Only thing diff is in some of the pics there is a a copper heatsink on it but in others its all aluminum. Mine is strait aluminum.

Site I bought it from has not answerd my email yet and hold was too long on phone to keep waiting I had to leave, will try again soon.

I used my amex to buy it and they are pretty helpfull if I should need to use return protection as a last resort, think I have 90 days for that though it could be 60.

Front has one that says P211-A03-1253 then under it 014-25-04

Dont see how it can be a GT since it has the ultras fan and heatsink and is two slot.

Yea but in this case the card I got is a SLI able pci-express 2 slot ultra lookin reference design board. Though is a bit strange about the BIOS sticker, guess just not going to know till I can test it.

Really want to try it out but I need to wait for nforce 4.

Either way it has the ultras cooling setup for sure so even if the bios is some kinda old gt bios it will prob run ultra speeds, that is if it even boots up hehe.

Probably a 6800Ultra that couldn't reach ultra speeds. So they made it a 6800GT when they were binning the chips. However they grade the gpus. I think they are the same except for the clock speeds the 6800GT and 6800Ultra.
