picked up the frys 160 gig 8 mg cache hdd today... the system i'm building for my father might not be able to handle it, so i'm gonna swap the 160 gig for my 120 gig (the mobo for the new comp may only support 137 gig's and lower), and i pick up 8 mb cache as opposed to my 2 mb cache. not too bad...

(i dont care about controller cards, my father dont care about speed, and there's no way in hell he'll fill up 120 gigs anyway)

one thing i'm not sure about. if i make the new drive the master drive, and load windows onto it, and slave up the other drive and drag files over, will that work just fine, i wont have any problems with having 2 drives with the same install of XP PRO on them?

Not really, but why would you have it installed on two drives?
why wouldn't you format the old after installing on the new?

i'll format the old when it goes in the new machine. i just need to transfer files off it.

Did I miss something? I thought your dad was throwing you out on your ass!! Now your building things for him? That's mighty nice of you.
I don't know about the >137gb thing cuz I don't have any bigger than 80.

Ghost the drive across. Easy enough. If not, load Windows on to the new one, and use files and settings transfer wizard. easy-peasy.

i've always built things for him... anything from furniture to computers....

Since your father probably has no chance of coming close to that drive's capacity, how about I send you a 20GB drive perfect for his needs and you send me that 120GB in exchange. 😉

i think i'll give ya a negatory on that. he may use some more than 20 gigs... just nowhere near 120 😛
