As much as I am for gun rights... I think people should have to show they have had some training before packing a weapon concealed or otherwise. Just imagine the scenario where a thug pulls out a weapon a fires a shot and everyone with a concealed weapon whips out their gun. Another person enters the scene and sees 4 people with guns... I see mass confusion.

being allowed to carry a gun is a right... but also an important responsibility. I do not trust the mental skills of a lot of people.

I agree. Nothing wrong with a class requirement. Thats what regulated means.

This giant shootout fantasy of yours and all the other frightened little Nancy-boys has never happened.

True enough, but most systems at present are pretty ineffective at actual training. In the meantime I don't foresee a problem like what you describe until many more people start carrying concealed, at which point (decades down the line) we'll probably have an incident like what you mentioned and the American people, reactionary as always, will mandate some sort of training. However, by that point guns will be widespread enough to offset the present slippery slope of gun control. So goes my theory anyway. Can't think of a better way short of a revised 2nd amendment stating my right to keep and bear arms for purposes of self defense that require no "demonstrable need".
