Not Texas Hold 'em Poker...but Omaha (hold em?)

Anyone ever play Omaha Hold em? It is very similar to Texas Hold em but in my opinion takes a lot more thinking and strategy. We played were you HAVE to use two cards from your hand of 4 and you HAVE to use 3 cards from the 5 that are on the table. That means the triple Aces you just got dealt, or the 4 spades aren't that great. It's fun to try if you are tired of Texas Hold em.

There might be variations on the number of cards you can use from your hand and the table though.

yeah i like omaha. i don't think it takes that much more thinking, but you have to have much better hands to win than in holdem.

I can't look up the official rules b/c of our firewall here...but do you play where you HAVE to use 2 and ONLY 2 cards from your hand of 4?

Yea, that's the only way I know how to play Omaha.

Yes.

I have also played Hi/Lo before where at the end you had to declare whether you are going for a hi, low, or both (put 1 chip in your hand for high, 2 for both, 0 for low). Then the guy running the game said we had to bet again on whether we were right about our declaration. It was the most aggravating variation Ive ever played. Needless to say I will never play in that game again.

Is this a real variation of the game? It sounds pretty lame. Like something someone made up while they were drunk. Can't blame you for not ever wanting to play that way again.

Also, if you get good at Omaha, it can be a cash cow in casinos. When Hold'em tables are full, the folks that watch Celebrity Poker and ESPN Poker have to get on the waiting list. So, many will see what else is open while they wait. Next thing you know, they are at a Omaha HiLo table with no real idea what is going on while giving money away.

Omaha is a fun game, but it can be aggravating (not so much as Razz, though). Something I've learned, if you're on a draw, and that draw is not to the nuts (HI or LO), get out. Second nut is seldom good at a full table.

Apparently it's one way to play but I always thought the cards speak.

AA23 double suited baby. AA23 double suited.

or if its just high.

AATJ double suited or AAKK double suited.

Omaha is tough, because it seems like EVERY hand is a potential winner until the flop. I have found that if you dont have a flush or better, then get out fast.

you have to play tighter in omaha but there is almost no bluffing, especially limit omaha.

For holdem, there is a smaller difference in amount won between noobs and mediocre players but a bigger difference between mediocre players and pros.

For omaha, there is a big difference in amount won between noobs and mediocre players but not that much of a difference between mediocre and pros.

Yes its scooping the pot. jdub seems to be playing some weird variation with a sidebet. Who takes him up on the sidebet I don't know.

like hold em except you get dealt 3 cards. bet preflop as in holdem
deal flop
everyone discards 1 card. go to post flop betting
continue as holdem from there
