Not sure why, but something about this is kinda creepy

That's pretty old news (half a year old at least). This is a research for a DARPA project.
The task is to create an autonomous bot for delivering supplies and ammo across the battlefield to soldiers. It has to navigate rough terrain and withstand blasts from ammo exploding around.
 
well it's certainly not going to do anything that requires stealth...
 
Is it me, or did it sound like that bot was wailing in constant pain? Really added to the creepiness.

Now I know why this video was so super creepy (besides what OP said, which I agree with): the herky-jerky-yet-perfectly-synchronized stomping automation reminded me of the stop-motion animation used for stuff like Robocop's ED-209. :Q

i think what makes it creepy is the way the legs are attached. one set of legs is backwards compared to a normal mule or similar animal.

Another reason for me is that the legs look too much like legs from a real animal. those attached to a mechanical box just looks grotesque.
