Not sure which video card to get

Finally decided it's time to ditch my Athlon 900 and GeForce 2 card. I'm short on money though, so I'm only upgrading to an Athlon 2100 palamino since that's the highest my mobo will take, and I'm too broke to afford a new mobo as well.

My mobo is an Asus A7M266, has the KT133 chipset I believe (not sure). I haven't been following hardware much recently, and now I look and see so many video card choices it's ridiculous! I'm going for an under $100 card, so I've narrowed it down to:

Radeon 9600 128MB
GeForceFX 5200 256MB
GeForce Ti 4200 128MB

Now, I noticed in the BIOS update for my mobo that it said "Added support for GeForce 4 video card". Does this mean that the FX card won't work with this motherboard? All these cards are about the same price, which one's faster?

Thanks

I have a 4200 and love it. I don't play many games, but the few I have tried looked fantastic. You can usually pick up one of these cards for $60-$90 in the FS/T forum.

9600 under $100 would be very nice. Just make sure you're not getting some SE variant. Your mobo should work with all these cards (I think).

BTW, many older boards go up to XP2400+ (theoretically, the 2600+ 266 bus, but those are hard to find). Are you sure 2100+ is the ceiling? If it is, and if your board offers multipliers, you can also get a tbred 1700+ for very cheap and change its multiplier to up the speed.

ti4200 by far. The others include some additional DX9 rendering features, but they're too slow to make DX9 mode playable. With the others you'll have to switch back to DX8 rendering, and at a slower framerate than the ti4200.

definatly get a ti4200....dont get a cheesed out brand either, get a gainward or leadtek or something along those lines...albatron seems kinda good to(started by gigabyte ceo)

How bout the ASUS one?

Huh? Since when did the 9600 become slower than the Ti4200? Or am I thinking of the pro when in reality, the non-pro is much slower?

exactly, 9600 pro and ti4200 are about the same speed (each wins over the other in different benches) but the 9600 non-pro is much slower.
