Not sure what I need or how to do it

I have an old linksys wrt54g router in my office at home and it broadcasts for the house. I have an Xbox. DirecTV dvr and blu-ray player in my living room, none of which have wireless capabilities.

I cant use a WAP because it doesn't have ports, Can I buy another cheap router and configure that to connect all 3 devices?

Do you guys have maybe a better choice?

Also If I wanted to wire the whole house would I just buy a large switch, plug the modem into the switch and then run the lines from the switch to each room?

Also Can I run a switch from a switch? Like router to switch one line from switch to each room and then a switch in the room running to multiple devices?

It seems to be that every split would be a loss in quality.

You can plug a Switch directly to the Mode. You need a Modem that goes to a Router, then you can use as many switches and WAP that you want connected to the Router's LAN ports.

was that I canT plug a switch directly to a modem? I need a router first? OK but as far as the wireless questions, what is the best solution (im not ready to wire the house yet)

Yes, a wireless bridge is what you need.

It will receive the wireless signal from the router and then you can plug whatever you want in to it.

So, it will go in the room with the xbox and those three devices will plug in to it.
