Doing a new build and ran into a dead end. Put it all together and started the windows xp setup and windows can't find any harddrive on my system. Went thru half the install when it this happened.. Rebooted and went to start over and got an ''NTLDR is missing'' error... Tried changing the bios around and still can't get it to load... Also have gotten a hal.ll error also.. How do I reformat the harddrive and start over with no operating system installed? Thanks...Appreciate any help.

d945gpm Intel board
Celeron 3.0 cpu
Seagate 250 gb Sata Drive

When I built my machine last year I had to slipstream service pack 2 with my copy of WinXP before I could install it. The original XP did not come with SATA drivers.

I have the xp sp2 cd - When I boot it just says in dos NTLDR Is missing.. restart......you restart and get the same message.

I used the 6 xp setup diskettes and it loaded and when I put in the 6th disk it said ''windows detects no harddrive on your puter'' f3 to exit...

I see the seagate harddrive in the bios. it's greyed out tho.. I removed the battery from the mobo yesterday hopefuly to clear the bios and try again. I know i must clean off the attemps to the new harddrive.. Not sure how to do it when I can't even get into dos. thanks.

If the HDD controller on your mobo (or add-on controller) wasn't available when XP came out, you may need to add the drivers for it during Win installation (you know, the F6 key process).

You need to go into your BIOS and change the boot order (or boot sequence it's sometimes called) to CD > Floppy > Hard Drive, and then try and boot/format/reinstall from the windows CD.

I set the boot order and when I get the ''hit any key to boot from cd'' the NTLDR is missing comes up at the bottom of the setup screen and dies. I need to clean the hard drive and start over but have no idea how to do it when I can't even get past the main screen... thanks.

Format C: and start over and also make sure the boot sequence is correct in the BIOS.

See, this is where a diskette comes into play. :)

Seriously tho, make sure your bios can see the HD, make sure the HD controller(s) are not set for raid, make sure the drive you are trying to get XP on is set to be the boot HD. Is the HD getting proper cooling?

Hello. Appreciate ya'll trying to help.. I don't get the ntldr is missing [knockin' on wood' . I go thru the 6 diskettes to setup xp and when I get the to 6th one - it says windows can't find a hard drive.... I need the sata controller drivers and looking over intel's site I can't find any downloads. I have the d945gpm motherboard cd but can't get it to download. Anyone know which drivers I need and how to get them? thanks again..

P.S. I have Ecronis 9 - Would that be of any help in this situation?

Well, I spoke too soon. I got as far as partitioning the harddrive and thought I was home free... After the hard drive finished I got this error message........

The following value in the .sif file used by setup is corruped or missing.

Value O on the line in section [source disk files]

Setup cannot continue.

I rebooted and the NTLDR is missing is back......... ?????
