I find almost anything can be put at 450 for about 30 minutes and come out more or less as desired. But usually I go by whatever is on the box, if there is no box or instructions then I've gotten myself too deep and I'm probably doing something from scratch, and things might get ugly.

Definitely the wife's fault. A worker of stationary machinery (the oven) should at no time leave the general area while it is operating unless it is locked out and tagged out. You should have her go through the OSHA documentation pertaining to heat generating machinery as a refresher. You'll be eating pizza for a while.

Good call. I'll send her to training and put a reprimand in her file.

Got your genders mixed up, friend. Cookin' is wimmins' work.

Right? I mean why else get married? Certainly not for that 'soul mate' 'lifetime companion' BS

Most ovens are equipped with a timer which offers even finer control than a smoke detector. But when I was single, I adopted the stratagem that however it came out was how it was intended. If my mashed potatoes are somewhat crunchier, chewier, and blacker than most people's mashed potatoes, then clearly they need to broaden their horizons.

Put those babies in a pre heated Heat Treat oven you can blacken them in few seconds.

;)

My parents are really good cooks, adventurous with food, I certainly had my fair share of strange meals growing up. Because of this I learned to appreciate many different foods, the flavors, the prep and other work that goes into such a meal.

That said, I can barely make a hamburger.

The first thing I ever 'cooked' (beyond microwaving) was a grilled cheese sandwich with an oxyacetylene torch in middle school. Made quite a few of them actually for lunches.

In retrospect probably not the safest thing but they were tasty.
