I just got an email from PayPal about my PayPal preferred status - apparently you must have at least one auction on eBay every three weeks and accept only PayPal on it in order to remail PayPal Preferred.

What does this mean?

Well, for me, it means I lose the 1.5% cash back on my PayPal Debit Card, which bites.

Also, it appears that PayPal is actually CHECKING to verify that you actually have auctions on eBay to keep up with the status.

Way to go PayPal... :disgust:

SunnyD

As hard as I looked, I could not find a Hot Deal in this thread. Please confine your bitching to Off Topic.

How to skin the cat?

Auction a paper clip for $.01 or $1,000,000 ?
Something unsaleable, say dog droppings?
Close the auction before auction deadline?
Have a friend "buy" the $.01 paperclip every 3 weeks?

There oughta' be a way to beat them at their own game.

Paypal sucks.

I hope some of the big banks come up with a better "pay-anyone" service.

Screw Paypal. I use Propay... you can accept a CC from anybody - including non-members. And the rates are about the same Paypal.

paypal is owned by x.com which started screwing everyone over
about 6 months before it shut down.

It took me 8 months to get the money from my account after they
shut down. I had to get some government agencies after them.

Heard in a Paypal board meeting....

"The economy is getting bad boys... sales are down... Find a way to screw the people that made us successful so we can still meet our projections."

UGH. I just took a look at Propay. Their seller fees and policies are horrible. $15.00 for the privilege of being charged back if a buyer decides to f* you over? No thanks.

I have used almost all of the pay services since their inception; c2it is at the very top of my list of favorites and they have no fees for domestic transactions. In January (tentative date), when they add 2-way international payments, they will really begin to overtake PayPricks (which is currently at the very bottom of my list of payment services...and rapidly sinking further).

Oh yeah - I just sold two things on eBay last week too... hrmph.

By the way, according to them, PayPal MUST BE THE EXCLUSIVE PAYMENT OPTION on the auction. I assume that rules out Money Orders... and potential buyers.

Same emails...first for the payment options (so much for billpoint and buy it now) and then for not listing. C2it looks very good.

Shouldn't this be posted in the whine and cry section? Where is the Hot Deal?

Anyway, here is what Preferred is all about.
(Most that use Paypal are NOT affected by this "BONUS")

-----------------------------------
Attention eBay Sellers
Save over 50% of your PayPal fees by becoming PayPal Preferred!
How do I become PayPal Preferred?
1. Sign up for the PayPal ATM/Debit Card.
2. Advertise PayPal as the only online payment option on your eBay listings.
How do I save on fees?
Just use your PayPal debit card. You'll get 1.5% cashback on purchases.
It's like an instant refund of over 50% of your PayPal fees.

----------------------------------------------

So the program is made to reward hardcore sellers.
Non-hardcore sellers won't go through the hassle of saving $1.50 on a $100 sale.
Premier Account's are NOT affected.
Only the ones that buy up all the items here in Hot Deals, and sell them at a profit,
while keeping the casual Hot Deal buyers from getting many items, are affected.

I asked Paypaldamon and he said you CAN accept money orders, checks, cashier's checks etc. You CANNOT state in the auction that you accept Billpoint, C2it.com etc. HOWEVER, you CAN say that to the buyers in the auction-ending email. It's all good.

I hate PayPal as much as the next person, but outside of having your own merchant account where you can verify buyer?s credentials, PayPal is still the only online payment system that offers sellers the option of a insured secured payment system for receiving payment from the Internet. While their fees are expensive relative to other online payment services, they are not as expensive in the long run as those ?free? services. Most sellers assume that once the money for a purchase is transferred to their bank account that they are safe and the transaction is closed, but they are sadly mistaken. Thieves ranging from individuals to organized crime outfits know and exploit the flaws in these online payment systems and use them to their advantage. All of these other ?free? payments services pass along 100% of fraudulent credit card transactions back to the seller and they will debit your bank account for the original transaction amount plus any fees that they have posted for chargebacks. You give them this permission when you sign up for their service.

The people who b@tch and moan about PayPal's policies are the same ones that will be b@tching and moaning six months from now when they start receiving chargebacks from fraudulent credit card payments on items that they sold long ago and assumed were ?done deals?

[/i]>>>Most sellers assume that once the money for a purchase is transferred to their bank account that they are safe and the transaction is closed, but they are sadly mistaken.<<<[/i]

I can personally attest to that...PayPal attempted to reverse a charge of close to $1,000.00 to me recently, for a purchase that was made 2 MONTHS ago. PayPal claims the buyer used a fraudulent credit card [I have no proof of that, so I am skeptical about their claim], so they're trying to go after me now. Whether they succeed is another matter :)

Oh I am, GetReal...can't give the details in the forum, but I am attempting to screw them just as they attempt to screw me. So far, they have debited my PAYPAL premier account, but even after reading their terms and conditions, I don't think they can go any further than that - I don't think they can go after the $0.01 in the checking account that I linked to my PayPal account...I wouldn't want to lose that :)

fuuuck em, if they cut me off, that's their loss, I won't use them ever again. They must be nuts, threatening to cut off their life support.
