let's try here... :)

how would I make this happen...
I'm looking to audit a network for wireless access points. But I'll be working with end users that aren't that tech savy, so what I wanted to do was have them walk around the office with a laptop with the wireless NIC in promiscuous mode. Then when an access point is detected, a window would pop up on their screen informing them that an AP was detected.

Would anybody happen to know what programs I would need to make this happen?

I know about netstumbler, are there other windows progs out there that do this?

Also how would I go about linking an application to an event which would result in a popup window (programming language, app, etc.)??

and yes my programming skills have gone down the drain...it's been a long time... :(

every wireless NIC i have ever used has come with drivers that do this. I know for a fact that the Proxim Rangelan2 series prompt you(if you want) to let you know when you enter the range of the access point, its signal strength, speed, etc.
