Not possible to adjust refresh rate in Win 98?

My grandparents have had this really old crappy 17" inch monitor for quite a while, that only ran 60hz at 800x600. So when I upgraded my once top-of-the-line philips 19" crt to a Dell LCD, I brought my grandparents the old crt so they could experience the joy of 100hz...

but - to my frustration, I could not find the usual "monitor -> refresh rate" tab in windows 98, which they are forced to run because the pc is pretty slow.

According to this site,

there is supposed to be a refresh rate drop-down list even in win98, but I'm almost positive they didn't have one, I looked everywhere. If this really is the case, that the feature is just absent with their set-up (very old video card too, Miro SV20, maybe that's the reason) - can anyone tell me what to do, in order to run the proper 100HZ on their computer?

That tab being disabled or having nothing but 60 in the dropdown is most likely the fault of your video drivers. What's a Miro SV20?

I use 98se quite extensively, not sure about 98 (original). But if they're the same, Mullzy w/b right, it's the gfx card/drivers.

Miro SV20 is a very old video card. It has 2 megabytes of video ram and won't run more than 800x600 :)
I guess it was pretty decent back when the Pentium 150 was the quickest thing there was.

I'll see if i can google me the original miro drivers... if not - is there any other solution? Someone recommended powerstrip?

You might need to set the monitor type, with an inf for this monitor or to a generic or wild guess type.

Refresh rates depend on Win98's lists for both the graphics card and monitor IIRC. I do know that I've set refesrh rates even back in Win95 with old ATI and diamond/S3 2MB-4MB cards, so it is possible.
