I just got a new MSI mobo and a new case i transfered over everything from my old comp to the new one, the only new parts being the case and the mobo, when everything was put together my comp ran fine, everything worked, i reformatted the day after due some random problem.

Now it wont pick up my pci audigy 2 card, so i have no sound, when i go to device manager theres the yellow ?!'s next to 3 or 4 things one of them being a pci slot device not found ( my sound card) then a media device (not sure what that is maybe my onboard audio?) and finally 1 or 2 unknown deivces.

When i turn on my comp it detects the pci device and the other things and will attempt to install them but it can never find drivers for em so it always fails.

The thing is before i formatted, my sound card worked fine and so did everything else, this leads me to believe the problem is not hardware based, but something to do with software, and maybe my bios??

Iv updated windows all the way, iv installed the mobo drivers, iv even reformatted again and nothing will fix this.

plz help me! =(

Heres my mobo:

Without drivers, nothing will ever work.

1) Reboot. Enter BIOS and disable your onboard sound. Reboot.

2) Verify (that means check again, even if you're certain) you have the correct drivers for your hardware. Remove the offending devices from your device manager; reboot.

3) When the machine detects the hardware, point it at the correct drivers.

There are no drivers for unkown devices and pci slots are there?

i cant install the audigy 2 drivers becuase it doesnt detect the card....

The audigy 2 probably IS the unknown device and/or PCI device. A sound card actually installs several logical devices, not just one. Do steps 1) and 2) and during step 3, try pointing windows at the drivers for the audigy, then come back and let us know what happened.

K will do, im at work right now but ill try it when i get home a couple of hours.

But how would i disable onboard audio through my bios? i dont remember seeing anything about it in my bios.

It'll probably be under the peripherals options, grouped with the other onboard controls, like for the serial/parallel ports.

If you have your motherboard model # I'll RTFM for you 😛

Wow, what a great manual (not).

It's almost certainly in the "Integrated Peripherals" section in the BIOS.
