Not paying toll on toll roads. How do they get you?

I haven't met anyone yet who ever did not pay toll, or just went through the EZ-tag or the pre-paid lane without paying. So if someone does not pay toll and goes through those open lanes, how are those people caught? Fast camera? Are those camera's good enough to take a clear shot as to read the license plate?

yes, and yes. They mail you the ticket, the same way they do with people running red lights at a couple of intersections in major cities.

big brother is watching.

You'd be surprised what those camera's will see. They could see if you put pennies instead of dimes into those "Unmaned" lanes. Yeah, they got your plate. You should expect a ticket in about two weeks.

I've run thru the Tollway accidentally here in Dallas a few times and never been sent a ticket. I've wised up now and just got a Tolltag... then I smirk at those suckers waiting in line while I zoom by.

I managed to run two tolls on the way to New York last week.:Q I got stuck going through an EZ-Pass lane on the Mass Pike so I had to roll through, then on the Jersey Parkway I approached an unmanned booth, but couldn't find my bag of change so I had to drive through that one since there were cars behind me and I didn't want to cause a scene. Without a doubt I'll get a ticket for one/both of them, although it may take a while since my car is registered in Massachusetts.

When I started riding my motorbike on the freeways, the toll road seemed like a good place to ride, not many cops and not much traffic either. At first I thought that toll needn't be paid for motorcycles, so I would just speed by through one of those pre-paid lanes. I did this about 8 times. Than someone told me that yes motorcyclists have to pay toll also. So natuarally I was worried that I would get 8 tickets and who knows not paying toll repeatedly might be serious offense. So I called the toll road administration. Here is what a supervisor told me. Those cameras are placed in a strategic position, as to be able to read car lisence plates. Since motorcycle lisence plates can sometimes not be viewed from the top very easily, they really can't do much. So I was told that if I was lucky, I would not get a ticket, and if I wasn't, than I would get 8 tickets at 250 bux each. Never got the tickets, its been 2 years.

<<Christ! They fine you 250 if you get caught running an EZ-Pass?>>

There wouldn't be much incentive to pay the toll if the ticket was only $10.

I don't think they ticket you for running the ezpass. They may bill you with an added surcharge or something.

-Also, next time you go through an ezpass at night, look towards the left and slightly ahead, there will be a bright light shining in your face and license plate. (There is probably for the camara) I didn't notice this until a coupla months ago.

A toll is a toll, and a roll is a roll.

If we don't get no tolls, we don't eat no rolls.

Here in NYC, people get tickets for those license plate covers. When they sent me my new plates recently, it explicitly said that you're not allowed to put any kind of plastic cover on the plate. The cops on Queens Boulevard have been on a ticket blitz for the past 4 months in response to the many who died on that road (the sucka is 15 lanes wide in some parts). 1 MPH over the post 30, and you're done.

schoolsucks-

Here's the low-down on the toll roads in Houston. They allow you a certain number of "free" passes per month. I think it's like 3. If you go over this number you will get a "bill" in the mail for $15 fine + $3 administration fee for each time you roll through without paying. It takes a while for the toll road authority to process the paperwork, so you may think everything's cool for a couple of weeks and then one day you might get a stack of letters in the mail. One of my friends ran up a $600+ tab one month blowing through EZ tag lanes. They are threatening to put a boot on his car if they ever catch it parked.

And yes, the cameras work great. They always capture your license plate in the photo. As a matter of fact, they send a photo of your car everytime they send you a bill for not paying. Here's something to remember: If you blow through the EZ tag lane at over 85mph you won't set the camera off.

The EZ Pass bank of toll lanes usually have 1 cop or some sort of officer observing what's going on and to dispatch cops if needed. Maybe it's just here.

Heh, what I can't figure out is my friend has EZ-Pass and received a $16 charge on his bill for toll evasion, even though the EZ-Pass recharges off his credit card when the account runs low. It's like they know who he is, they have his credit card number, so how can he be evading tolls:confused:

The thing that ticks me off the most is when people without EZ-Pass pull up into the EZ-Pass only lane. Don't you people see the big green sign over the lane that reads "NO CASH. EZ-PASS HOLDERS ONLY"? And then some people just sit there thinking the workers care that they are stuck in the lane without an EZ-Pass.
