Keep your wallet shut on January 20th!
Not One Damn Dime Day - Jan 20, 2005

Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to oppose it, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not One Damn Dime Day" in America.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending.

During "Not One Damn Dime Day" please don't spend money. No one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime for nothing for 24 hours.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day," please boycott Wal-Mart, Kmart and Target.

Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter).

For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down.

The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for the people of the United States of America, not for the international corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent the corporations and funnel cash into American politics.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. The politicians put the troops in harm's way.

Now 1,200 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan - a way to come home.

There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing agenda to rant about. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" you take action by doing nothing.

You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed.

For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.

I think I'm going to do this. No sales tax revenue from me for one day.

It'd be funny if you ran out of gas that day.
Or forgot your lunch :)

And the US economy thrives on impulse purchases:)

If you work that day the government will get get income tax

It does something to the government. The government relies on a constant influx of sales tax revenue to fund its bureaucracies. Therefore, people should save their money for the long haul on the 20th, thereby deferring the sales tax revenue far into the future.

Of course I am going to plan ahead. Duh. I'm not talking about income tax or payroll taxes, those are inevitable, I'm talking about sales tax which we can avoid, if even for just a short amount of time.

Most purchases will only be deferred a day. This will have no affect at any level of goverment. You will only keep money from being spent if you put under your matress. Saving the money in a bank, will only result in someone spending your money for you.

What would be nice, if everyone started paying their income tax quarterly, rahter than have it automatically taken out.

As of now I have exactly $5.65 in my checking account. The rest of my money is in here or in cash.

Actually, that could apply to any government regulation. No violence is needed to get rid of the government, all you need to do is to do nothing. Good luck convincing millions of people that they have no obligation to obey the government, however.

and keep some physical PM

hey you ever frequent this forum?

Yeah I visit there often and I post there under the same screen name. I would have gone with e-gold myself, but I didn't want to have to go through a third party to get my money out. With GoldMoney its just deposited in my checking account within a couple days when I sell my gold.

No, I just don't like keeping much money in a fractional reserve bank, which I consider to be an inherently immoral institution, and one of the main bastions of government power.

No problem. If you sign up there I suggest you buy your gold through Kitco. Kitco charges a smaller % for the gold. You just mail them a money order or cashier's check.https://online.kitco.com/goldmoney/info.html">Go here</a> for more info.

Edit: that's strange. It is re-directing me to PayPal. https://online.kitco.com/goldmoney/info.html is the URL.

Well, given that gold's value tends to be an inverse the dollar (dollar goes down, gold goes up) it may be wise to put your fiat money into such an account during times like these. I am not sure about the specifics of goldmoney.com but in e-gold you can pay bills directly from your account. So your savings won't be 'rotting' as the dollar falls as if you kept it in a regular savings account.

, although for slightly different reasons.
