not much better than formatting your pc

Well, this time, after you're done installing the updates, ghost it to some floppies.
(I ought to make a commission for recommending Ghost in so many threads!)

Thats why I had my original 60's and now my 160's in a raid array. So far neither of the 160's have died but both of the 60's died on me at different times. All I had to do each time was rebuild the raid array. 🙂

eh.... you got rid of a drive that died and got a notoriously unreliable drive as a replacement?

Nice move. 😉

Revere your 1 year warranty. 😛

I'm sick of recommending it also. The only reason NOT to do it is if you got a new mobo... otherwise, GHOST after a basic install ! I just did a ffresh XP load on a new machine (new mobo don't like existing HDD contents) last night... it took a good 2 hours to get it at basic level. Ghost images take 10 minutes to restore.

I don't do that because I have a seperate data drive... so I don't lose any important data in a format.

Also, I like doing a clean install with updated drivers. Using a two year old ghost image means you are using old drivers.

which you can update in as long as it takes you to get to the site.. rather than sitting there for a 39 minute XP install, 10-20 minute configuration / tweak, on top of everything else (like Office, etc.) Did it just last night... what a bitch... no joke.

Unless you are installing XP on dual raptors...took about 13 minutes.

Now the updates...that's another thing😉
