Well, lookin back on the past year, not much has happend. Since the race to 1 GHz in last March (I don't have the exact dates) we have only gone up 200 MHz to 1.2 GHz and have now gotten on our hands a CPU that is actually worse in current benchmarks than its cheaper competitiors, including the competitor from its own company (it is the P4 that I speak about of course). Oh well, at least we got Athlon's with on-die cache, something long overdue even last year at this time. And prices have dropped substantially, as a top of the line 1.2 GHz Athlon can be found for around $230. Last year top of the line CPU prices were $450+, even for the Athlons.

The industry is still on-track and following's M.'s Law. We should see systems with about twice the performance of a P3-866 around June of 2002. But I agree there's not much excitement.

i thought CPU power was supposed to double every 18 months via Moore's law (or is it the amount of transistors that can be fit on a chip?) anyway, that would give 2 GHz chips by October of this year (seeing as 1 GHz was released a year ago in March). But I don't see that coming - well maybe a P4 at 2 GHz by then? Palomino won't ramp up that quickly I'm sure.
