After a week and a half my vacation down in the Houston area is over. Tomorrow I must make the 16 hour drive back to my apartment.:(

The drive sucks especially the 5-5.5 hours through Texas. I hope to do it in one day, but if not I'll have to find a hotel that will let me have my dog in the room.

i sure am glad my sister couldn't get an extra ticket to her graduation up at purdue. that driving would have sucked.

of course, i wouldn't have driven the whole way, i woulda taken over when mom conked out about 6 pm.

ouch. :Q

When I moved from columbus to chicago a trip that normally takes 7 took 16, in a 20 foot uhaul towing my car on a carrier. With two cats, despite being tranquilized, meowing the entire way. Oh, and it was pouring rain. I swear to god, that had to rank as one of top 10 most miserable days of my life.

Good luck man, you'll need it. I don't see how truckers do it. It took me an entire case of mountain dew, 2.5 packs of cigarettes, a box of nodoze, and pulling off the road evey 1/2 hour towards the end to regain my sanity.

My mom, brother, and dad have to drive up there in December for my graduation. Kind of sucks since Fall graduation is held on December 20 so we are going to have Christmas at my apartment.

That's funny...I'm driving back to Maryland tomorrow, from Chicago. About 13.5-14 hours, depending on morning traffic out of Chicago and afternoon traffic through Columbus.

Haha, funny. I remember that blizzard, I was on the last flight to leave chicago right before they closed the airport for an insanely long time. Right after my winter vacation was ending, and school started the next day in Ohio. Didn't stop me from telling my prof's I was stuck in chicago as an excuse for missing classes.

I know the feeling. Last November, I was driving home from Chicago to Maryland for Thanksgiving. I go Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland. Everything was going through Ohio, I had run into a few flurries, nothing major. Then, right as it started to get dark, around 6pm, I stopped in WV to get something to drink. It started to snow. It was okay at first...but then it started to stick, and visiblity went to sh!t. I drive a little Escort, and it was like the little engine that couldn't, trying to get up and down those hills without sliding. And, let me tell you, it give you a whole different perspective when sliding off the road means falling off a cliff hundreds of feet in the air. I spun out three times before I finally called it quits, around Hagerstown, MD. That was the worst driving experience of my life, so far.

hmmm ... surprising U have to go thru West Virginia to get from Chicago to Maryland ... U are better off taking 80 East to Pittsburgh, then the PA Turnpike to Harrisburg and then go south to Hagerstown on whichever route U prefer

Just my $0.02

Ah! Going through Pittsburgh alone in those conditions would be a nightmare. I interned at a newspaper in Pittsburgh...those hills will kill you in a POS car.

Good for you. However, I doubt you were travelling with a dog.

This is true...my way adds close to an hour to the trip. However, it also saves me about $25 in tolls through Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania...

Exactly. The problem was, on those roads there's only exits, like, every 30 miles or so...and averaging about 25-30mph, it would take me almost an hour to get from one exit to another...The happiest moment in my life occured during that drive; I was coming up on a corner (I knew it was a corner because the tail lights (which was all I could see) in front of me were moving left) when all of a sudden I saw a flashing yellow light behind me...SNOW PLOW! Oh, man, I let him pass me, and just cruised behind him...
