Decided to go with the Canon since it came with a free 64mb Flash media card. Anyway I know I ain't using it right or something because it takes great outdoor pictures. But indoors the picture looks poor and dark. I have the settings set to auto. Also is there a way to set the shutter button to flash almost instantly instead of having to hold it for like 5 seconds? Could you all give me some tips on it?

I read some of the manual but can't make out much of it.

Thanks

indoor, firstly if there is white balance mode set it to indoors or flash... that way your picture comes out in the right tone. almost all built-on flashes are weak, so dont expect a full flash coverage (brightness around the edges) at a long distance... and especially stuff ~15 feet and beyond. its just a limitation of flashes. if there is a night flash mode... try that, it'll extend the exposure for a better background.
the wait for the flash is for it to charge (takes up lots of power). initially,. when the camera is "cold", you'll almost always have to wait. however, after 2/3 pictures or so, the wait time on the flash decreases significantly. also, that tiime delay might be the camera searching for focus... in which case itll take long in dark situation or if youre focusing on dark objects

Anyway if I don't deserve it then back to office depot it goes :D for something more simple. I'm more into the user friendly cameras and this one ain't. My old kodak doesnt take 5 seconds to take the pic its almost instantly once you hit the shutter button.

So in order to brighten the indoor pics up what are the settings?

Are you letting the camera focus? Push the button halfway down until the camera focuses...then push it all the way down. It should be very close to instant..my A40 is, anyways.
