Not impressed with DirecTV so far...

I was supposed to have DirecTV installed today. The dish and wiring is already in place in my new apartment. So they give me the standard option of 8am to 12noon or 1pm to 5pm. I chose 8-12 because i have a few things i needed to do this afternoon.

It is now 2pm and they still haven't showed. I called them up to see what was going on...waiting on hold for about 15 minutes before they found the "Tech" and they say, "Yeah...the tech is running a little late." A little late?! "If he doesn't show up in about 45 minutes, call his local number (gives me local number)." WTF? Like i have all day to just sit around and wait for this dumbass? The least they could have done is called me to let me know! :|:|

Is having my set up fee of $9.99 waived too much to ask for being 3 hours late?

I would say a waived setup fee should be your INITIAL demand, and I'd personally try for a free month of service.

At-home service people who are late is one of my biggest pet peeves. If they call beforehand and explain, no problem. Mistakes happen. But to just show up whenever is simply unacceptable.

I installed my own. That way I had no one else to blame.

If i had the receiver, i would. Everything else is already hooked up...so he doesn't have to really do a goddamn thing when he gets here. :|

You can buy a receiver without having someone install it.

I installed it myself 4 years ago when I first got DTV. Then earlier this year I got a new receiver with TIVO from CC and swapped it over myself as well. Salesman never made any mention of installation.

I'm getting the receiver for free...with their new installation package thing.

They still don't have to install it? I ordered a DirecTivo from them. They shipped it and I declined the install and did it myself.

He got here about 2:35. Installed the one receiver...and left me a second one (even though i only have one tv)...he told me "hey, if you don't get another TV, you can just Ebay it."

LOL

Now call DirecTV and complain. It should be worth free HBO for a month at the very least.

HBO? Naw, Spice channel or something like that would be good for free.

heh when i got Dish network setup they were late also. But once the guy got here he was pretty cool. He set us up with everything and even carried a 19 inch TV around to set up all 4 recivers (only had one tv out. heh forgot to bring them along).

so far i have been happy with it. Much better then when i had comcast cable tv.

Right. Bought in in July 0f 2000. All the stuff cost $100 and I installed everything. Maybe they don't have that deal any more.

Hmm, when Comcast was late (many many times), I got one and a half years free when all was said and done.

You probably won't be as lucky with DTV, but I would bitch at them anyway. 🙂

I've been very happy with DirecTv.

The install was handled quickly and professionally at the time specified. Have not had any service issues in over two years.

Far better than the POS Insight cable provider that I had been using.

consider yourself lucky. I am working for an installation contractor for directv. I would say 1/5 cust will get screwed when you scheduled for an appointment. on average I have to talk to 4-5 angry customers a day. there are 6 so-called "customer service rep" so roughly 24-30 angry customers a day. consider there are 160 jobs (includes installation, upgrades, mover connection , troubleshooting) a day, that's quite a bit of pissed off ppl per day.

Hot damn! A year and a half? When I complain to them I get an apology and that's that.

Funniest thing is, they could have told me to "Piss off", because I have no alternative [too many trees for satellite], but no, they gave me over a year free.
