Not illegal, but really unethical...

Can a mod check this out? This kind of stuff makes me mad. I don't guess he's really breaking any AT rules, I just hate seeing this kind of stuff and I don't think AT should support it by allowing the thread. The thread. I seem to be alone in the ethics department, btw.

that isn't even unethical... all he is doing is making a return on a product, within the stores time frame, this is legal, and not unethical at all, that is why stores have return periods.

I see what your saying Maggotry but as long as he returns the card in a condition fit so it can be resold at FULL price I don't see any problem, especially if he goes back to the same store to order the card he really wants.

OK. I guess I'll head to Fry's and "borrow" a Ti 500 and 2000+ for a week or 2. Thanks for setting me straight. I'll just borrow my upgrades from now on, screw buying!

Do gooder? I guess you think that's insulting. It ain't. I take pride in my ethics. Buying something with the intention of borrowing it is unethical, DaiShan. Yes it's legal (as I said in the title), but unethical.

You're not alone in the ethics dept... I personally wouldn't do this either. It's abusing store policy, and if enough people abuse it, the policy will change, hurting everyone. Soon they will only accept unopened returns 🙁

DaiShan- stores don't have return policies so that you can borrow and use the item...

Mitzi- every computer hardware box that I have seen for vidcards or sound cards usually has a seal on them, or shrink wrap. As soon as the seal is broken or shrinkwrap removed, it can't be sold at full value. Would you pay full price for an open box item?

No I certainly would not. I have never bought a retail graphics card (all my stuff is OEM) so I don't know what protective seals are used on retail boxes, hence my original post.

As I said in my original post, if the store cannot sell the product for FULL price once its been returned, then it is morally wrong what the guy is doing, especially if the guy has no intention of buying the card he really wants from the same store.

That's the long and short of it.

Yep. I guess I'm not totally alone, just another of the minority that cares about honesty and integrity.

It may be a minority, but that minority includes me and I have the lock button. Thanks for the heads up.
