I just got this in my email from a friend....can anyone verify if its BS or NOT?
Subject: your credit: personal information goes public

Starting July 1, 2003, the four major credit bureaus in the US
(Equifax, etc.) will be allowed to release credit info, mailing
addresses, phone numbers, etc., to ANYONE who requests it. If you
do not want to be included in this release of your personal
information, you can call 1-888-567-8688. Once the message starts
you want option #2(even though option #1 refers to this email,
push #2) and then option #3. Be sure to listen closely, the
first option is for a two-year period. Make sure you wait until
they prompt for the third option, which opts you out FOREVER. You
should receive their paperwork in the mail confirming the "opting
out" in less than one week after making the call.

I called and opted out just so that the banks will stop sending me credit card offers. I heard about this in a television ad and called right away.

The opt out number has been posted a few times now, and it really works. i haven't received a single pre-approved offer since I opted out.

I got my credit reports and saw a ton of inquiries every month for like two years.....they supposedly don't affect my score, but I don't like it.

Same here. Took about five minutes and does exactly what it is meant to. Haven't gotten a single pre-approved cc offer since I entered my info in December.

yes, the call works - but have to do it to all four.

Also, this doesn't stop your current CC company from sending those pre-filled out check for $600 to $1400. All that needs to be done is sign your name and cash ! Ticks me off, if I want a cash advance I'd take one - with the number of wrong address mail that I get - I hate to think of someone getting checks meant for me.

Of course, you can call and stop that also, It's just a lot of calling - got to aways be on yiour toes and be proactive.

watch your financial back

Just once, and it opts you out of all of them.

Its worked well for me too since when I did it about 6 months ago.
