Not Hot: Office Depot will only take coupons in-store

I ordered(online)an item last week from Office Depot using a $25 off $75 coupon code. When I received it this morning I noticed my bill did not include the $25 off. The CSR did mention about their changing their policy about coupons. 15 minutes later I was told they would credit my account $25. I asked about not taking anymore coupons and she said they would only take coupons instore, no more coupons via the web or telephone. She did mention that they'll still mail coupons out to you. Forgot to ask if she meant email, snail mail, or both. Since I don't have an OD near me, I don't receive any mailings, but I imagine they'll have a long special one-time use number unlike web coupons. Darn. :`(

If this post doesn't belong in Hot Forums, please don't respond to it and left it drop down to page 2, 3, 4, etc...

Thanks

I think this has been discussed many times before, and I think the final word was that it really depends on where you live, as some people have, and still have luck using the coupons both in-store, and for in-store pickup online.

Time to start buying only from Staples...they are clearly the best. They'll match competitor's prices AFTER rebates, let you cycle through coupons on the phone (lol...I went through about 3-4 with a CSR the other day because I had used all the others) and they ship fast and almost 99% of the time it is free.

 to Staples...at least until they get tired of us AT'ers and change all of their policies. :p

Wow I haven't seen that much staples praise ever.
Most of my experiences with them have sucked.:|

After rebate pricematching? forget about it..
..using coupons with pricematching? never in-store...

...I guess its your luck with the CSR you get.

When I deal with Staples they will certainly not PM AR.

I have run into this junk w/ OD... they ask for a hard copy of the coupon when you pick up the order :/

give OD/OM and staples a break, we've been abusing them for years and probably have cost them $millions by the rebate/coupon/PM scheme we've got going. should they have let us keep doing that until we ran them under?

FWIW, Circuit City will match post-rebate prices (assuming the rebate is unique to the other store). Any available CC rebates will bump up the price.

So, if OD had something for $19.99 after rebate, and CC's price was $49.99, you would get it for $16.99 (110% match). If CC had a $10.00 rebate going at the time, they would only pricematch it down to $29.99 (should still get it for $27.99 with 110%).

Hrm...Must not apply to Hawaii. I just used a coupon to buy online and picked it up at the store and my bill reflected the coupon just fine. No problems here.

you are so damn right. I'll wait until the day that OD/OM/Staples don't have coupons and then you guys have to pay full price and get worse service at BB/CC.

I just got a hard drive today from Office Depot. I got the $25 off coupon just fine. The problem is that I need to go in to the store now and price match the online price to the in-store price and that should get me $20 credit.

I did a ton of stuff with the $15 off $30 coupon for in-store pick up the last couple of weeks and didn't have the slightest problem with anything. I guess it depends on your area. Maybe not all stores got the memo yet?

1Cheap2Crazy, is it possible you've done something to raise a "flag" in their system? Maybe it was just the particular coupon you used... Sometimes the "explanation" changes from one CSR to the next in these situations..

I find it hard to believe they're not taking online coupons yet their website still validates them... it'd be pretty easy to disable coupon acceptance online if that's their intention, not waiting till after the order was processed.

That I wouldn't know. I used a code from a coupon site.(red flag???) When I called the CSR she looked at my order put me on hold, etc...She asked if I knew the sku for the coupon, I did. She punched it in with no problems. She said that the reason the coupon didn't show up on my invoice was that the warehouse doesn't get to see the code, so when they punched it into the system it didn't show up on the invoice. She did not give me any sort of feeling that she was trying to give me the runabout or even implied that I was trying to abuse the system. BTW, I don't agree with the people who call stores/csr repeatly to try and get the store to PM, take a coupon, "forget" to add shipping charges, etc...I mentioned that here one time and was told by some people that I must be sitting on a high horse. Whatever.

I know when I placed the order last week I had to call them and ask where do I punch in the coupon code. They told me I needed to click on the button that says, "Visit the new Office Depot site". From there on it went smooth. Until I got the package/invoice.

She said that today was going to be the start of not accepting online/telephone codes. But I suspect those codes are the ones you find at online sites and not the ones they would send you. It's my understanding that Staples, and others, are using one-time codes. That will make it harder to "abuse" the system. Seems fair to me.

Not positive if they aren't taking these codes that are floating around on the web, but just a heads up.

Maybe this thread should have belonged in "Brag and Moan"?
