Not HOT but very COOL pocket CD-RW at Office Depot

Long time lurker and first time deal posting:

Office Depot has the 5 pack of Memorex 185MB/21 minute pocket CD-RW's for $4.87 in the weekly ad.

In case you have never seen these:

They are the same size as a floppy and are cool as all hell. Most writers will be able to read and write to them and they are great for taking files home to work on. You can format them very quickly and the size is perfect.

Link for online orders

For all the deal bashers:

Please refrain from posting snide comments.

Thanks. Haven't seen many deals on these. Just the ticket for the Aiwa MP3 player a lot of us got from Outpost awhile back...

Since you claim in your title "Not HOT" then why did you post it here? I'm normally not one to crap (purposely) on someone's deal thread, but I think youopened yourself up by saying Not HOT in the subject in the first place.

Now I guess the question comes out to be: is the deal posted actually warm? Maybe. I've never bought these. You probably would have been better off, though, to just post the details and leave the heat rating to others as well as the request to not post snide comments off entirely. You would have been safer in the long run. just my opinion, though.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking for some of these mini-CDRWs. I got a pack of the mini CDR's. They're great. I hate carrying around full sized CD's in my briefcase and these are just the right size.

Not too many places sell these. Haven't been able to find any except at OD.

that's right, it's just an opinion.
wrong one too. he was trying to head the crabbers off at the pass, but we see that in this forum/this topic that they trickle into a topic about an lcd for a penny regardless...
one can please some of the people some of the time -- unless they are anandtechers

Nice to see the prices on minis dropping. They're definitely worth having, if for no other reason than the reduced time it takes to full format them. Much greater storage than a floppy, without the hassle of lengthy erasures.

Now if the price would drop on mini-CD-Rs, I'd be a happy camper. I just hate having to give away CD-R/Ws.

While this may not be a scorching deal, I would call it warm.
IF you can find pocket cd-rw, they are almost never on sale.

Thanks for the post Beavis1313

I put Not HOT in the title because I didn't want folks to think this is the best price for these CDs. This is the first time that I have seen the CD-RW version on sale somewhere and wasn't sure if the price was considered a "hot" deal.

I just hope it helps a few people find a good product at a fair price. Unlike some of the scam artists that try to get 100 video cards for a penny.

Not a thread crap, but I know for a fact CompUSA sells their own OEM brand of mini CDRWs. You might want to check it out. We used them at work a lot.

I like these....

Just a note. If you want to get these shipped.... it costs 6$ extra. You could simply get a pack of 10 from best buy with free shipping for 10$

🙂

Did you really need to post any of that?

sweet!
A friend of mine here (at Cornell) was making the business card CD's before i had ever seen them, about 4 years ago. He used a laser cutter in one of our MatSci labs to cut CD-Rs down to the right size, and then burned his resume onto them... very chill. Now, of course, everyone sells them. I've not seen mini-cd-rw's on sale ever though. Thanks!

Wow...and to think i was basically polite in my reply to the message. Why the negative, personal attacks? What degraded the thread more? My message about posting that it wasn't Hot, then stating that it could be a warm deal, or turning this into a thread of personal attacks?

Hmm...whatever. I wasn't attacking his "deal" at all, rather trying to state that putting Not Hot in the subject AND telling people to not thread crap was opening up a can of worms. If you analyze the thread up to this point, there were 19 posts: the OP plus 18 replies. (Not including this one) 10 of those (including mine) were in direct response to the topic of mini CD-Rs and whether it was actually, in fact, a warm (or better) deal. The rest simply bashed my comments and went into personal attacks. The fact is, I still believe that my comments were okay. I commented on the deal and stated that I wouldn't have put Not Hot in the subject at all. Then actually said it might be a warm deal.

Oh well....my limp wrists are getting tired of typing so much. Sometimes that happens to flamers, you know.

I think this is a pretty good deal. Unless you buy spindles of the mini-CDR's, you're paying about $0.50 - $1.00 per disk, so that much for a mini-CDRW is a good price.

And personally, I LOVE the mini-cdr's. I pretty much use them and only them. Even have a bunch of slimline jewel cases for them that I found for 25 for $3 (I think mispriced) at a Best Buy a few months back.

Shoot, I thought it was a pocket burner or something like that, instead its 5 cd-rws, hehe. I think some company should be a pocket CDR drive for the mini-CDr's. If they price it well, it could be useful especially for people with laptops but then again, many laptops come with a burner already.

BTW, what speed are these rewritable at?

just picked up a set... they're 4x.

the packaging says that they are compatible with cd-r/rw cameras. which cameras out there have direct cd writing capabilities? afaik, all the cameras i've seen use compactflash, sd, multimedia, or some other solid state flash memory. any one know?
