We have all seen this type of email many many times. If everyone is going to post what they found, this forum is going to be flooded with junk. Same for those ebay, paypal scams. Don't get too excited when you got one. Just congrut yourslef that you are smart enough to not click on the attachment.

Only a fool would use a "Microsoft patch" sent though the mail. As Microsoft has repeatedly said, they NEVER send any patches through email. Never.

Let the complete and total idiots fend for themselves - it helps the support industry and makes them wisen up. Tough love :)

What virus comes w/ this email?
How do you get the HideWindow virus? A friend got it but said they didn't open any email attachments (I don't fully believe them). No, it's not me. :)

Yeah, you'd be pretty dumb to use a patch that was attached to an email, supposedly from microsoft. Besides, if you scan it you'll see that it's a virus. I've probably gotten 10+ of these emails already.

One would think that sentence might be a clue that this may not be legitimate. Unless Microsoft recently hired Tarzan or Tonto...

Besides making lots of copies of itself, it lets your computer be remotely controlled by somebody familiar with it. (Exactly what they can do to your computer isn't explained, but I bet it's not good.) Another, nastier variant logs keystrokes and sends the results to a certain E-mail address.

In other words, it's not something you want to get hit with.

I've been getting these "security patch" e-mails for literally months and months. They are nothing new. I use Norton AV 2003 and it catches and deletes the file before you can even open it.

Don't smugly pat yourself on the back and say: "I never open these attachments", because there are many viruses that run without opening the attachment. All that is required is that your "preview" the file in Outlook, which can be as simple as highlighting the e-mail so you can delete it. Fortunately Norton catches these also. You have to run virus software!

Or you can simply turn the preview pane off. =P

Anti-virus software is useful, but sense (and a dash of computer know-how) is often a sufficient substitute.

Or, hey, just don't use Outlook.

If you forward that e-mail to 12 dozen people, Bill Gates will send you a car because it saves him the trouble of hunting down unpatched users, as security is the #1 priority at Microsoft.

Yes, 12 dozen, u didn't really think billy would give cars out that freely did u?!
