I think not. When Conroe finally ships, there'll be massive price cuts on many AMD's, so they should be substantially cheaper than the Intels.

I have to agree with this. Until I see the real prices of the X2's and the Conroes, I won't say anything else though. You can't say AMD will have this price and Conroe will be that price until its on newegg, in stock, and your order ships. (as an example)

Site say they will have chips, then don't, they say they are in stock, but don't ship, etc... And then due to supply and demand, no matter what you read, prices can go all over the place.

The Core based processor will still have better performance/dollar and you have to keep in mind even with the 169US 3800+ X2 coming up Intel has cheaper Dual Cores then that.

Yes, netburst junk will be cheaper by a few bucks. Not really competition though.

Core2 is the new Conroe core, and is faster than AMD64 clock for clock, and, barring more price cuts from AMD, will be cheaper for the products in the same performance braket at launch.

They also run cool and overclock EXTREMELY well from early results (3.2-3.5ghz on air, 3.6ghz+ on water, 4ghz on supercooling).

Actually I think he was dismissin the importance of Netburst price-cuts after the Conroe launch by saying that "Netburst junk" was "Not really copetition though" in comparison to half-price X2s. I would tend to agree with him. After Conroe launches, there will be no reason to pick up Smithfields or Preslers at all.

Why??? How do you the context in what that fits? How old is he? When did he first start buying his own PCs? AMDs have been competitive since 2000 eaisly and anyone could have justified their purchse...whther it be price, performance, or ocing ability...


Ocing is pretty much the same from AMD to Intel so there is no learning curve going from either...

Also if it wasn't a bunch of morons in here touting these crap chips even though it was clearly identified the crappy mobo you get in some of the combo deals were not enough to get a decebnt OC...The stock cooling was quickly ineffective and needed high end air or water. Not to mention high end mobos were needed and even then 4ghz is still only equal to a average OC on a current X2 setup....which can likley be done with stock cooling, stock voltages, and sub 80 dollar mobos...

Need I say more....

That is true to some degree, though Presler is competitive given the right clockspeed, people exagerate when they say NetBurst is trash.

Pentium D 3.4GHZ is decent against the Athlon 64x2 3800+.
