Not guilty by reason of insanity?

In light of the publicized material and other information about the VT killer, would he have been found not guilty? I think we are lucky that he committed suicide. Had he been taken alive, the community would be divided between the people wanting blind vengeance, and those who want a fair trial. A lot of the talking heads on TV keep referring to the killer's mental disturbance and I think there would have been a good chance that a trial would have resulted in a not guilty verdict!

Please no more threads on this. it's depressing enough and it has been more than saturated in every type of media.

He wasn't insane enough to excuse his actions, so no, I don't think he would have gotten off with an insanity plea.

Watch the video he mailed to NBC after killing his GF. He already knew what he was gonna be doing next, massacre a lot of innocent people in the school he was attending. His reasoning for his actions were lame IMHO. Guilty as hell.

He was already ruled mentally ill once. There have been psychiatrists that have said that he showed signs of schizophrenia in his writings and his video.

I don't think he would have ever made it to trial.

No sane person would do what he did. Whether or not he'd have been found guilty, he would have certainly been institutionalized involuntarily for a very very very long time. I think it's pretty obvious he was stark raving insane.

the amount of thought and preperation that went in to this should that it was well thought out and pre-meditated... I think that alone would disqualify any kind of insanity defense - although he clearly was insane.
