Hi,

I have a Toshiba MK6026GAX (60 GB 5400 RPM) on my HP dv1000 notebook. The hard drive failed a week ago (I bought this notebook less than 120 days ago), but HP sent me a replacement drive the next day.

I downloaded ~30 GB and uploaded 90 GB via BitTorrent (via Azureus) and a few other gigs via other p2p software. Are notebook hard drives not meant to be left in use overnight? Or was the failure just bad luck?

I use Windows XP Home, and I have 768 MB of ram.

Thanks.

I don't think it's a problem to run the hard drive overnight. However, it may be a problem to run your laptop for an extended period of time if it isn't adequately cooled. It is possible that your last failure was due to excessive heat. I would check out one of those cooling pads for laptops if I were you. I'm pretty sure you can get one for 30 bucks or less.

No, no... 30GB over the 120 days. My connection tops at around 1 mB/sec download and 400 kB/sec upload

You should be just fine. You will be alright if you leave the unit on 24x7, but, like it was pointed out - you need to ensure that the lappy doesnt get overheated and has enough ventilation.

I always do that for my Tablet PC. It shouldn't pose any problems. Though BT is quite taxing on the HDD because of the MD5 checks and uploads. Do make sure the HDD is adequately cooled as the others pointed out.
