Getting the hell beat out of you for driving drunk might sound a little extreme but compared to going through a windshield or spending 20 years of your young life behind bars because you killed someone is a lot tougher obviously.

Hey let me tell you what you drank was not TOO much. Its not like your were unable to move. A few weeks ago I was eating at a mexican place with some guys and they each drank a full pitcher of san gria after having margaritas and they drove home fine.

Wow, that's great support/advice. Yeah, I mean as long as you can MOVE you can drive just fine.

been there, done that.. got pulled over..60 in a 45.... luckily the officer didn't give me a test or look into my eyes.. believe me, I'll NEVER do it again and I feel so blessed that I didn't go to jail that night... plus I was underage at the time... so that's even worse...

Stefan:

Don't ever fvcking do that again!

I don't want to see you or anyone else become yet another victim of drunk driving.

If you think you can live with the risk to yourself, stop and imagine your life if you killed a child by hitting them while driving drunk.

I'm glad you seem sorry, but I repeat:

Don't EVER fvcking do that again!

I am glad your ok, but I really wish you would have been pulled over. Not to be a major bitch here, but maybe a fine and a night in jail would remind you not to do it again. You seem like a nice guy, but that doesn't mean you should get away with it. Hopefully, you have learned your lesson and won't do it again, before you end up killing someone innocent. My school nurse, a wonderful caring woman who was only in her thirties, and her husband were hit by a drunk driver, and killed instantly. Their three kids, between the ages of 7 and 15 were hospitalized for months, in intensive care, and required therapy to learn how to walk again. They lost their parents, and almost their lives just because somebody wanted to have a good time, and not think about the consequences.

Michael,

That site was last revised in September 2000. There is a penelty of a 24 hour suspension of your licence for beging over .02. (which they want to change to .01 by April 2002).

<< Also, get some education on how quickly the body gets rid of alcohol. >>

Alright, I just did. According to this site, by the time I left the bar and started driving home (just after 2:30 am), my Blood Alcohol level was .024, which is .004 over the limit. I would have been legally alowed to drive if I had waited in the car for another 17-20 minutes (which was approximately the time it took to take home).

I think some of you are getting the wrong idea about just how 'drunk' I really was. I had 5 drinks between 9:30 and 2:30. The last one, I had at ~ 12:30.

Red Dawn,

<< If you can't be responsible then maybe you shouldn't drink. >>

I felt I was being responsible. I had those drinks between roughly 9:30 and 12:30. The only thing I had after 12:30 was about 3 glasses of water cause I was doing a lot of dancing and worked up a fair sweat.

I am not trying to defend drinking and driving, because that would be stupid. What I am trying to defend is myself from you people that are trying to make the situation look like I was drunk out of my mind and drove home.

PG19 - I hope you don't kill any children or innocent bystanders next time, you sick jerk.

If you were telling the truth I hope you are locked up soon. and if it was a joke then it was nice and tasteless, man.

I think you are misunderstanding. Any "drunk" is too drunk. You were, by your own admission in your previous post, more than likely over the legal limit. Period, end of discussion, you should not have been driving.

<< Any "drunk" is too drunk. >>

This is not true. Thats saying you are just as hammered after 1 drink as you are after 20 drinks.

I know it takes me about 5 or 6 drinks before I start to feel a buzz. I get 'drunk' after about 8 or 9.

When I had finished my last drink at 12:30, I did not feel like I had a buzz. I felt 100% normal, because I had spread my drinks out a little, and had been dancing and drinking water. By the time I actually drove home, I was 100% normal. I do not believe in any way, my inhibitions were slowed down, or that I was not 100% in control. (If I felt in ANY way, I was not in 100% control, I would have taken a taxi home)

<< You were, by your own admission in your previous post, more than likely over the legal limit. Period, end of discussion, you should not have been driving. >>

True. I should not have been driving. However I do not believe my chances of getting into an accident were any higher at the time I drove home, than they would be right now.

You already had a car, or were you driving the one you were thinking about buying/did buy? No bearing on what you did, I think drinking and driving is a stupid act, I am just curious.

Either you're under the influence, or you're not. It's as simple as that. You can't be "a little" pregnant, can you? Either you're knocked up, or you're not. There's no alternative.

I do not agree that it's alright to drink alcohol and drive, simply because everybody thinks they can handle it, including those who can't. People don't realise when they've reached their limit until it's too late. And when they have, most of them simply ignore the dangers that come with drunk driving, and think they can handle it.

I wouldn't mind drunk drivers if they hit a tree each time they spun out of control and killed themselves. But the fact that it's almost always innocent bystanders who end up getting hurt or killed, is reason enough for me to come to the conclusion that nobody should be allowed to drink and drive.

It ain't worth it.

The fact that you questioned your decision to drive home is a good thing. But unless you think about the dangers of drunk driving next time before you get behind the wheel (and thus decide not to drive!!), you haven't learned a thing. Let's hope you're not that ignorant... else, you're just plain stupid.

Does that matter at all? NO, there is a reason why the limits never go up, only down... The reason is that your senses are blunted even after the amount of alcohol that you drank...

ONE regular 5.0% beer is enough to make your actions slower and less oriented, the vision is narrowing also...

NEVER drink and drive! If you cannot figure that out for yourself, you are too drunk to drive...

<< Bah, think of it as population control >>

But the real stupid ones are sitting behind a steering wheel with an airbag, the innocent victims that he might hit are not...

A great thing would be to have an alcometer installed in all cars, if you drink, you CANNOT drive...

No need to "believe" that they were slowed down or not, there have been numerous studies that show that your reactions are slower even when drinking half of the amount of alcohol that you did, there have been NONE that show the opposite...

OK, for all those that said it is wrong to have any drinks and drive home, there obviously has to be some point where it becomes ok to drive or else the majority of the population wouldnt be able to drive because at some point in their life they had a drink. so when is it finally ok? what if i have a six pack between 2 and 4 in the afternoon, obviously most of you think i shouldnt drive by dinner time even if i dont feel anything, when will you all finally grant me permission to drive again?

btw, i think you were fine stefan. especially since you were dancing and sweating i bet you werent even at .024 anymore.
