The "old" Si hatchbacks still look the best IMHO; the pre '96 models. But you're right, the current hatch looks like ass!

200 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque,

its to bad they couldnt do anything about that torque.

Basically this looks exactly the same as the RSX, except in hatchback form.

oh.. and this: "$24,000-plus"

Yeh, I'm a big hatchback fan, but the Civic hatchback always looks so cheesy. What's up with that? And why would they only sell it in Europe, knowing that there's so many punk kids that would love to get their hands on them?

Unless they're concerned that there's going to be so many people rebadging their Si as an R....?

I seriously think Honda doesn't like their fanbase over here in the States... since the craze of ricers grabbing Civic's and modding them, Honda has tried to make the civic more conservative. They've made no effort to appeal to the ricer crowd (can't really blame them, but just imagine the sales), and bringing a Type-R here would give an image that Honda supports the ricers, which I suspiciously think they don't...

this concludes geno's conspiracy theory of the day :)

I liked the old EK style hatchback, it looked clean and nice. No mention of an LSD or whatnot... and I don't really like the front end either.
I do like that more forward shifter position though... but "rally-style" is nothing but gimmick.

So far Europe gets the Accord TypeR & now the Civic TypeR (which they already had)... I think most Honda fans will be happy with the ITR anywho since most can't afford an NSX-R. :D

Funny thing is that in my Honda dealer, they have a glass case with what appears to be accessories you can buy for your car. Among them are gold badges and.....you guessed it: Type-R badges!

While I was there, I asked a couple of sales people what all this Type-R business was just to see what their reaction would be, and they pretty much denied that such a thing exists :D I was like "No, they have them in Europe..." "NO! There's is no such thing as Type-R!"

Correction, don't you mean a Skyline with turbos & ATESSA AWD (GTR)? G35 is a base model Skyline for all purposes.

Correction ;) We actually have a slightly better class Skyline (G35) here in the US. A 2.5L AWD and a 3.5 (IIRC) with paddle shifters is available in Japan.

Hahahaha

Last time I went to a Honda dealer, I was looking at the new Si and this lady came up and asked me "Wow, are you going to fix that car up with wheels and lights if you buy it?"

I laughed in her face. It was even more pathetic that Honda now has pre-riced cars on display in their showrooms (w/rims, sh!tty exhaust, and springs). At least they aren't selling clears or altezzas.

Hmm? I thought that the G35 only came with the VQ 3.5L V6 and RWD?? I'm considering GT-S and GT-R models as non-base like how an STi WRX is non-base. Anywho, it seems you can almost own a G35 for the price of a CTR... not to mention a WRX or almost a 350Z enthusiast model! Mebbe that's why Honda won't sell it here... they know that most ricers don't have that kind of money.

ROFL. I guess they are hoping to appeal to a certain demographic? When I bought my Civic in the end of January, the salesman was like "You might want to wait and check out the Si! It's a hatchback and more powerful, etc." He showed me the brochure and I was like WTF?! I'll take the coupe. Sheesh. I do like the shifter that sticks out of the dashboard. That's about the only thing I like.

In the US that's the only option we have. But in Japan they do have different trims:

350GT-8, 300GT, 250GT, 250GT FOUR, 250GTm

Either that or they don't want the Civic Type-R to mess with sales on the RSX Type-S especially with the rumors of the RSX-R coming out in a year or so.
